Disillusioned

Why have our voices been silenced by the government? Why do our representatives not represent us? What will we do when we sink further into the mire that we call our failed economy? What will the future bring? I am overwhelmed and extremely disillusioned by Washington. All I see is secrecy, lies, and hypocrisy. I applaud Judd Gregg for standing up for principles rather then power regarding his nomination as Commerce Secretary. That is one thing that gives me hope. Perhaps, there is still some integrity in Washington. For an administration that promised transparency and the public's right to review all things in Washington, they have failed. Washington currently gets a D in transparency and a F in allowing the public to review certain policies.

Greed, Capitalism, and Socialism

While this video is from 1979, it is extrememly relevant today. If you think it is okay for socialism to reign in the USA, please consider the overarching result. The only people who gain an advantage in a socialist government are those who are in government.

Frivolous

Even though our political, moral, and economic environment is in total chaos and I am obsessing on it, I am choosing to blog about something frivolous. Why? I'm feeling weary of ranting with no positive outcome. I'm tired of all the drama. Does this mean I am giving up? NO. I just need a break.

So, I was reflecting on several items in my house that indicate that my cats rule my house rather then me. I have a sign in my front room and then I got a mug, which I am drinking out of at the moment, that states the house is operated for the comfort of the cat. Every now and then I think, "What? That's nonsense. I'm in charge." And then my cat demands to sit on my lap while I am on the computer. If I try to ignore him, he still jumps up and makes himself cozy. Do I push him off? Nooooo, that would be mean. Oh brother!

I have been looking through gardening catalogs today and plotting on ways to have a decent sized garden in a fully landscaped yard. I would love to have a fruit and veggie garden, but they take up so much room. I can do some things via pots, but some stuff grows too big for pots. Of course, I'm drooling over all the flowers. I wish I could plan how to layout things better. However, I am spatially challenged in this respect because I can't think of how things grow and to what size. I also don't know how to plan when there are bulbs in the ground. I never thought I would like gardening. I find it very therapeutic. I enjoy digging in the dirt and taking care of the plans so they will prosper and keep blooming. It also reminds me of God, too. This is due to all the allusions to God as a gardener and also because man and women started off in a garden.

I am also trying to do my needlework more and read more rather then spend all my time on the computer. My challenge is with my cat, Dante. He thinks my lap is his property and this makes it rather hard to do needlework, especially when you have to count stitches. I have tons of podcasts I like to listen to and I can't read at the same time. I thought, hey, I can listen and do my needlework, but then I'm pinned down by a cat. I need to suck it up and say no to my cat, but I'm weak. Oh well. There is something comforting about a cat curled up on your lap, sleeping.

Well, I suppose these things aren't really frivolous, but they are not weighty like other topics. They are light and fluffy. There's no heavy thinking, no demand for answers. They are a part of my life and they are things that bring me joy and happiness. Last night, at church, I was reminded during our worship that God is truly in control. I have to remind myself of this multiple times a day. In step with remembering God is in control I must remember all the blessings God has given me. My life is incredibly blessed and I have access to things so many others in this world do not experience. So, for my life, the things that bring me joy, the ability to think, the ability to state my opinion, for my basic needs I am extremely blessed.
